Reality Hackers: The Next Wave of Media Revolutionaries
Reality Hackers: The Next Wave of Media Revolutionaries is an anthology of writings linked to Trinity University's seminar series of the same name. The course, which was taught by Associate Professor Aaron Delwiche in the Department of Communication, was made possible with a generous grant from the Martha, David, and Bagby Lennox Foundation.

We printed a limited run of full-color hard-cover copies, and we are also making a digital version available on-line. Feel free to flip through the pages on-line or download a PDF version to your own computer or phone.

Subject: ok, thoughts on post-humanism
First - TOTALLY cool class. Not sure if I'd rather be in it or teach it.

Like many learned individuals, of such I lay no claim, the term post - human produces a guttural response not unlike a painful wince at some hellish sound or outcry. I'm curious if the effect of so many years of science fiction publications en masse combined with not just the allowance of but the possibility as well of notoriety and fortune plays an active role in the processes of thought. Whereas in bygone eras any type of 'out of this world' thoughts or writings could easily bring ones feet to the fire or at least if not burned make a change of address to avoid the mob bent on your demise a necessity. Either way it must have retarded the theoretical advances of the day to a degree keeping forward scientific thought or theory at bay or at least at minimum. Certainly the proliferation of "new" ideas was slower and potentially dangerous. No constants in this world but change saw growth in humanity to eventually include changed archaic notions of demons and witchery (at least in most cultures and social circles) allowing for dreams beyond site and mostly devoid of mythology. Now antique, works by Bradbury - Lovecraft continued to break more trail for Eco - Gibbons. All the while scientific advancement improved as well. More and more science fiction novels were pre-history books. But that is just evolutionary growth, isn't it? No different a play of tragedy than any before save the antagonist and set change - right?

SO.... why is this evolution our current evolution as a species, less human than any in existence before now? Is it as some theorize, more binary (only two states, on/off, black/white)? Why is now the soul relegated to something less romantic or ignored entirely for favor of the mind and cyborg like view of the world outside of ones self? Is there a sacrifice of something the beatniks had which as a movement seemed more spiritual and mythical and enlightened? What I'm viewing so far with this post school of thought seems more erudite. Almost a clinical removal of humanity in order to grow beyond it.

All that being said - one of the coolest topics I've encountered in a long while. I'm uncovering a mountain of things to read and study of which I've encountered on the surface. Thank you Thank you Thank you for jazzing me up on a topic.
